Speculation Gallery

Anyone that has researched the past and unearthed the many mysteries that can await an explorer (physical or virtual - explorer that is) knows that inevitably you’ll find yourself speculating and theorizing with the best of them. History itself, and by extension archaeology, seems to have a slightly twisted sense of humor. Who hasn’t heard of the excavation of some revelation only to find that what could potentially be the most important part of it is missing - but you don’t really know if it’s the most important part because it IS missing - but that doesn’t stop the speculation. Case in point - the Scorpion macehead. I figure there’s a 50/50 chance the missing side shows ole Scorpy wearing the crown of Lower Egypt. I tend to speculate in favor of the pro-50%, but History, with its twisted sense of humor, has probably ground that missing side into what can only be called non-existent dust particles. The point of this? The fact that it never fails, something - the ONE thing - that could be instrumental in defining a period, a people, a way of life is missing. And if it ain’t missin’ then the person who found the piece of it they do have is dead or anonymous. So what do we do? We speculate and theorize. Admit it, everyone does it eventually - it’s nothing to be ashamed of, unless you have Alien Construction over at Giza, then I’m afraid you are a hopeless case.

I’m no different from the rest and in the midst of researching something have stopped with that "deer in the headlights look" (you know the look - it’s the one that everyone hopes looks "scholarly" when in actuality you probably look like a dying fish gasping for air) to wonder if maybe....just maybe.... That said, I’ve decided to bare my soul and reveal my ponderings, suppositions, theories and other miscellaneous speculations. I have only to collect my many wandering thoughts into a semi-cohesive state to produce something that sounds remotely like I know what I’m talking about and then I’ll add them to the site for public consumption (laughter, jokes, whatever). Please, be gentle.
