Below you will find a list of various masculine titles that were used in Ancient Egypt during its various time periods. They are divided into four categories - Royal Titles (those used by the Royal Family), Occupational Titles, Religious Titles and Honorary Titles. I would again like to stress that this is not a complete list and will be added to as time, and research, permits. A small note on translation - from what I have been able to ascertain the title "Chief of..." and the title "Overseer of..." are basically the same title, Chief and Overseer in these instances being interchangable.
For those designations that have multiples, the variations will be shown in brackets. Not all of these designations were used throughout Egypt's history, in some cases they were used in the earlier periods, some in later periods and others sporadically throughout all the periods. Occasionally you'll find one that is renamed, but the position itself remained the same. Such an instance is the title "Great Chief" used during the Early Dynastic Period to designate tribal leaders/nomarchs. In later times the men that held those positions were known as "Nomarchs", the title of "Great Chief" giving way to this newer title. (You can find the feminine titles on THIS page)
